Information technology pioneer and philanthropist Dame Stephanie Shirley shares her personal journey of autism in the context of our developing understanding of the condition.

When Giles was 13 she cracked up, and since she was the main carer, they finished up in hospital. It took her a year to recover.
At this time Giles was staying in an hospital and they took him out just for weekend and later - just for picnics.

Giles become institutionalized in hospital and lost most of his human rights, so we set up the adult service in Kingwood with Giles as the first resident.
And how she helped adults with Asperger syndrome to find a job in her IT company or as consultant.

As from last year they're using also a teaching robot, and its teaching success comes from SHOW and not TALK.

After Giles died she dedicated her life to the autism sector. She started to focus an the big question - what autism is, as distinct what it looks like.
